LRK display cartoning system

Cartoning of pre-packed products into display boxes at high speed and very precisely is a quite important task in many confectionery food pharmaceutical or Non-food industries. For example pillow packs, bars, roll and stick packs or flat packs have to packaged in display cartons – flexible, fast, efficient and cost-eficient. LoeschPack has developed a new system for these tasks: the modular high-speed and flexible display robotic cartoning system “LRK”.

> Specific advantages of the modular system LRK:

• High-performance modular complete system for display cartoning
• Very compact design by integrated “all-in-one” layout
• Very high availability and reliability especially for the line operation
• Flexible and quick-change erecting and filling modules for further contents, product sizes and box dimensions
• High infeed capacity of up to 600 products/min.
• Compact display boxes possible, perfect packaging quality
• Only filled packs are released to the next packaging process step
• Flat cardboard blanks for cost efficient cartoning
• High hygienic level by consequent front plate (“balcony”) machine design
• Fast cleaning and maintenance by optimum access from all sides
• Very good price-performance relation

Customers can choose from several modules that are aligned. They erect display folding boxes, taking-over grouping and filling the products into the boxes, and finally closed the filled boxes either with attached or separate lids.

With a modular LRK display cartoning system up to 600 products per minute can be packaged into up to 80 boxes per minute.

> Precise feeding:

Products are presented to the LRK system e.g. by horizontal flow wrapping machines, three-side-sealing machines or other primary or secondary packaging machines.

To take-over products from those machines two solutions are available: an indexed servo-driven race track system. Or alternatively a servo driven feeding wheel to pick up products individually and position them accurately into the infeed of the filling module.

> 1. Module = Folding Module

Flat cardboard blanks are taken out of one or several magazines. Side and front flaps of the blanks are glued with hotmelt.

Flat carton blanks are pushed through the folding funnel by means of a servo-driven upper die and are erected. Several erected boxes are directly placed on two servo-driven vacuum shuttle transports.

> 2. Module = Filling Module

The alternating vacuum shuttle are transporting the folding boxes into the filling area, underneath the placing head. Boxes are holding their position very precisely by means of the vacuum. Compared with belt conveyors only minimal deviations during transport arise which are in the range of a tenth of a millimetre. Malfunctions or stops during the filling process are eliminated and the whole filling process is featured highly efficient for continuous production.

A servo driven two-axes transfer robot takes over layers of products out of the product transport and places them into several erected folded display boxes simultaneously. The amount corresponds to the layer content of the boxes which has to be filled.

The filling is executed at high precision and high performance – with up to 60 filling cycles per minute.

Each box is checked whether it is completely and correctly filled. Only good boxes are given free.

> 3. Module = Closing Module

Attached lids are closed inside the third module. Different types of closure are possible: tuck-in flaps, side and or front flaps that are glued against the side walls of the filled box. Alternatively the filled boxes can be closed by using separate lids.

A best-before code can be applied onto the filled boxes inside the closing module.

The filled and closed display boxes are presented to the further packaging operation.
